Vadakkumnathan Temple a classic example of Kerala architecture
is the happening place of ‘Thrissur Pooram’ the grandest of
temple pageantries in Kerala, celebrated during April-May
every year.
Anakkayam famous for its lake of cool placid waters and silent
streams is breathtakingly beautiful.
Zoo which is in a 13.5 acre compound accommodates a variety of
animals and the snake park houses a huge reptilian collection
including King Cobras. Art Museum nearby displays a good
collection of wood carvings, metal sculptures, Kathakali
figures, ancient jewelery and traditional Kerala lamps.
Cheruthuruthy, Kerala Kalamandalam is the home of renowned
repository of the tradition of the Kathakali dance form. The
institution also offers training in music, drama, and other
dance forms including Mohiniyattam, Koodiyattam and Ottam
Thullal.
Kodungalloor a major port of the past, has the oldest mosque
in the country. St. Thomas landed here in 52 AD.
Guruvayur is among India's most important pilgrimage centers
and is also known as the Dwaraka of the South dating back to
the 16th century. Punnathur Kotta near here is the place where
the temple elephants are taken care of. Nowhere else can so
many elephants be seen together at the same time.
Peechi is an exotic Wild life Sanctuary in the periphery of a
Dam.
Athirappilly, Vazhachal near here is South India's most
fascinating waterfalls.
Getting here
The nearest airport Cochin is only 78 km away. Thrissur
Railway station is a major one on Thiruvananthapuram-Mangalore
and Thiruvananthapuram-Chennai routes. KSRTC Thrissur station
operates buses to all district quarters and major towns in the
state. Buses are also available to Chennai, Combathore,
Bangalore, Palani and Thanchavoor.
